Pre and Postnatal Care

Physiotherapy focuses on exercises to strengthen muscles, alleviate discomfort, and prepare for childbirth. Acupuncture may help manage pregnancy-related symptoms such as nausea or back pain, and aid in postnatal recovery.

Common Conditions

  • Gestational Diabetes: Elevated blood sugar levels that develop during pregnancy, which can increase the risk of complications for both the mother and baby.
  • Preeclampsia: High blood pressure and protein in the urine, typically occurring after 20 weeks of pregnancy, which can lead to complications such as organ damage, stroke, or eclampsia (seizures).
  • Gestational Hypertension: High blood pressure that develops during pregnancy, without the presence of protein in the urine, which can increase the risk of preeclampsia or other complications.
  • Hyperemesis Gravidarum: Severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, leading to dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and weight loss, which may require hospitalization for treatment.
  • Postpartum Depression: Mood disorder characterized by feelings of sadness, anxiety, and fatigue that occur after childbirth, which can interfere with maternal-infant bonding and daily functioning.
  • Perineal Tears or Episiotomy: Tears or incisions in the perineum (area between the vagina and anus) that occur during childbirth, leading to discomfort, pain, and potential complications such as infection or pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Postpartum Hemorrhage: Excessive bleeding after childbirth, often defined as blood loss of 500 ml or more within 24 hours of delivery, which can lead to complications such as anemia or hypovolemic shock.
  • Diastasis Recti: Separation of the abdominal muscles that occurs during pregnancy and persists postpartum, leading to a visible bulge or gap in the midline of the abdomen and potential core weakness.
  • Urinary Incontinence: Involuntary loss of bladder control, often occurring postpartum due to weakened pelvic floor muscles or nerve damage during childbirth.
  • Postnatal Depletion: Physical and emotional exhaustion experienced by new mothers, often due to sleep deprivation, hormonal changes, breastfeeding demands, and the stress of caring for a newborn.

Came to see William as a last resort for my herniated disc as I’d been recommended surgery for the injury. He was very patient and worked with the limited mobility that I had. Thanks to his expertise, I now have the quality of life that I had before, without having to proceed with surgery. I can’t thank him enough for this new lease on life!

William the Physio that we saw showed an immense amount of care and attention to detail in regards to the rehabilitation of my grandfathers shoulder. He went out of his way to make him as comfortable as possible showing us many different ways we could approach the rehab, if one of the methods wasn’t sufficient.
