Balance and Mobility Issues

Physiotherapy includes exercises and balance training to improve stability and mobility. Acupuncture may help alleviate symptoms contributing to balance problems, such as pain or muscle stiffness.

Common Conditions

  • Vertigo: A sensation of spinning or dizziness, often caused by problems with the inner ear (such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) or disorders affecting the vestibular system.
  • Dizziness: A general feeling of lightheadedness, faintness, or unsteadiness, which can be caused by various factors including dehydration, low blood pressure, medication side effects, or neurological conditions.
  • Gait Abnormalities: Changes in walking pattern or difficulty with walking, which can be caused by musculoskeletal issues, neurological conditions, or age-related changes.
  • Ataxia: Impaired coordination of voluntary movements, resulting in unsteady gait, clumsiness, and difficulty with balance and fine motor skills, often associated with conditions such as cerebellar disorders or multiple sclerosis.
  • Falls: Accidental loss of balance leading to a person coming to rest unintentionally on the ground or other lower level, which can result in injuries such as fractures, sprains, or head trauma, especially in older adults.
  • Orthostatic Hypotension: A drop in blood pressure upon standing, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, often caused by dehydration, medication side effects, or autonomic nervous system dysfunction.
  • Muscle Weakness: Reduced strength in the muscles responsible for maintaining balance and stability, which can be caused by conditions such as aging, neurological disorders, or deconditioning.
  • Proprioceptive Deficits: Impaired sense of joint position and movement, leading to difficulties with balance, coordination, and spatial orientation, often associated with neurological conditions or peripheral neuropathy.
  • Parkinsonian Gait: A characteristic walking pattern seen in individuals with Parkinson's disease, characterized by small shuffling steps, reduced arm swing, stooped posture, and difficulty initiating or maintaining movement.
  • Foot Drop: Weakness or paralysis of the muscles that lift the foot, resulting in difficulty with dorsiflexion and a tendency to drag the foot while walking, often caused by nerve damage or neurological conditions such as stroke or multiple sclerosis.

Came to see William as a last resort for my herniated disc as I’d been recommended surgery for the injury. He was very patient and worked with the limited mobility that I had. Thanks to his expertise, I now have the quality of life that I had before, without having to proceed with surgery. I can’t thank him enough for this new lease on life!

William the Physio that we saw showed an immense amount of care and attention to detail in regards to the rehabilitation of my grandfathers shoulder. He went out of his way to make him as comfortable as possible showing us many different ways we could approach the rehab, if one of the methods wasn’t sufficient.
